Vestibular Physiotherapy
Do you suffer from dizziness, balance problems or vertigo? Up to 7.5% of adults will experience a bout of vertigo within their lifetime. Vestibular vertigo is 3 times more common in the elderly and exhibited a nearly 3 times more in females. The vestibular system is the sensory mechanism of the inner ear that helps the body maintain its postural equilibrium. It works along with your eyes and body to establish its balance. If the system is disrupted by disease, aging, or injury, vestibular disorders can result such as benign paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV) and vestibular neuritis.
Your vestibular system commonly causes symptoms such as vertigo, dizziness, headaches, nausea, lightheadedness, tinnitus, double vision, or balance disturbances. Vestibular physiotherapy can help address problems with your vestibular system. We will assess your symptoms in different positions and perform different maneuvers to help ease your symptoms. If indicated, we may also prescribe you with a balance exercise program. Vertiginous symptoms are very common and often go untreated, if you feel like you are being affected by vertigo, come in and see us for a full consultation.
