Practice Profile
The past:
Back in 1994, South City Physiotherapy’s future directors Katrina Milicich and Philippa Williams were in training to do their first marathon. They had seen the t-shirts at the Gold Coast Marathon and decided they wanted one.
During the ensuing months of running around Brisbane at all times of the day, the idea of developing their own physiotherapy centre emerged. They both had many years experience within physiotherapy, particularly in the musculo-skeletal care of patients.
In August 1995 they opened South City Physiotherapy Centre in South Brisbane and have continued the care of patients both local and those from other parts of Brisbane and Queensland.
At the end of 1995, they had the opportunity to be involved with the acute care of injured workers through an affiliation with an Occupational Health Provider, Health For Industry at their clinics.
The present:
The practice has grown and now employs 4 physiotherapists and 2 administrative staff. In keeping with their commitment to provide treatment founded on current information and evidence-based research along with a sensitivity to the marketplace, they have added to their services over the years.
In particular, they have expanded their rehabilitation exercise programmes and opened a golfer specific service under the
golf
fitness programme.
Occupational health services have also been extended to suit the needs of the working community.
South City Physiotherapy now offers pilates mat classes. These classes offer exercise programmes based on core muscle retraining pilates exercises and current evidence-based techniques to ensure a safe, effective regime. It is important that participants are monitored to ensure correct technique, therefore our hour long classes are limited to 6 people.
And the future….
Plans are to further develop services to cater to the needs of their clients while continuing to offer the latest physiotherapy and injury management skills available.
NOTE: Katrina and Philippa never did run another marathon!
