Frequently asked questions
1. Do I need a doctor's referral?
South City Physiotherapy staff are all qualified and state registered
to treat patients without medical referral. If you are able to
claim a rebate for physiotherapy services from a private health
fund, this is possible without a medical referral.
A medical referral from your general practitioner is necessary
only if:
- You have been injured at work and your case is being
managed by workcover or comcare; or
- Your treatment is covered
by Veterans Affairs; or
- You are claiming your treatment expenses
through a 3rd party claim.
Your physiotherapist is also able to refer you on to other medical
and allied health professionals where it is appropriate.
2. Can I claim a rebate for my physiotherapy treatment?
Private physiotherapy is not rebatable through the Medicare system.
If you have private health cover and subscribe to the “extras” cover
you should be eligible to claim part of your treatment fee. There
are many different schemes and you are best advised to check
your level of cover with your insurer.
If you are covered, most health funds are online with HICAPS.
This is a service we provide for your convenience. It allows you
to claim your health fund rebate at our clinic, leaving only the
gap to pay. You will need to bring your health fund card with you.
3. How long does a treatment take?
An initial consultation for one problem will take approximately
45 minutes. If you have multiple areas or a complex problem it is best
to allow 60 minutes (please let our reception staff know this at the
time of booking).
A follow on consultation will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
4. Is carparking available?
South City Physiotherapy has several free undercover carparking
spaces exclusively for our patients use. Simply drive under our
building at 12 Cordelia st. and you will find car parking designated
for physiotherapy on the lefthand side.
