FAQ's
What is physio and is it what I need?
Visit the Australian Physiotherapy Association site.
Can I claim a rebate for my physiotherapy treatment or pilates class?
Private physiotherapy is not rebatable through the Medicare system. If you have private health cover and subscribe to the "extras" cover you should be eligible to claim part of your treatment fee. There are many different schemes and you are best advised to check your level of cover with your insurer.
If you are covered, most health funds are online with HICAPS. This is a service we provide for your convenience. It allows you to claim your health fund rebate at our clinic, leaving only the gap to pay. You will need to bring your health fund card with you.
Do I need a doctors referral?
South City Physiotherapy staff are all qualified and state registered to treat patients without medical referral. If you are able to claim a rebate for physiotherapy services from a private health fund, this is possible without a medical referral.
A medical referral from your general practitioner is necessary only if:
- You have been injured at work and your case is being managed by workcover or comcare; or
- Your treatment is covered by Veterans Affairs; or
- You are claiming your treatment expenses through a 3rd party claim.
Your physiotherapist is also able to refer you on to other medical and allied health professionals where it is appropriate.
Is there a waiting list?
No. An appointment is usually available within 24 hours.
How long does an appointment take?
For each treatment you have 30mins of your physiotherapists time dedicated to you. If you have 2 injury areas or a complicated problem you can book an extended appointment. You should allow an hour for this appointment.
What should I wear?
This depends on your condition and your comfort is important to us. For neck problems your physiotherapist will require you to remove your shirt. For back conditions or hip complaints the physiotherapist is likely to ask you to remove your trousers. Shorts can be provided or you may wish to bring your own. Pilates exercises and Pilates classes are best done in gym or loose comfortable clothing, you will not need shoes.
